Day 23:For Women Only! Changing the World 1 Biodegradable Tampon at a Time.

Day 25: How Many Coffee Cups are there in The World?
October 23, 2010

Before I start my GIVE today I have to add a coincidental story about my tampon post yesterday. I took my son to the park today and one the first things I come across in this beautiful oceanside park is plastic tampon applicator. I only hesitated for only a moment and went to find a plastic bag. (yet another piece of garbage in the park) Both were placed in the nearest garbage bin. The thought of young children playing around this particular piece of garbage ranks right up there with condoms for me. Truly the two nasties things to be in a park where kids play. My additional GIVE for the day – a big one considering the object!

Give 24 / Day 24

As I join the wonderful world of social media and begin to find my way around new sites and information, I come across remarkable people doing remarkable things in the world.

Some days I can’t help but to be inspired by a cause, become part of a movement, be a voice amongst many to help create change. I’m not a right or left wing anything but there are a few things that I will stand up for and today’s GIVE is for a women on the other side of the world, living in a world I will never understand.

The women’s name is Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani. You may have already heard her story it has been well published and discussed in the media. She was recently sentenced to death by stoning for adultery. The western world took up arms against this sentence and it has now been changed to hanging. She could be put to death any day.

The first question that goes through my mind is “what happens to a man that also commits the same acts in Iran?” I’m not sure I want to know the answer as stoning and death most likely don’t come into the equation. I’m not here to judge or condemn a society I don’t understand but I can have a voice. I can join the list of the other 349,478 people that have signed a petition to set Sakineh free. If my voice along with everyone else’s voice can make a difference to one women’s life on the other side of the world, for a crime that is not punishable anywhere else than I have helped someone that needed me.

A mother of 2 is sitting in a cell waiting to be killed at this very moment. What will you do to help?

Can you find 30 seconds in your day to hit this link and sign the petition? Free Sakineh Just do it. Be part of the change.
