Day 117: The Power of Giving

I am reading a book at the moment called The Power of Giving. It was written by Azim Jamal & Harvey McKinnon. The book starts like this:

“We live in a world of violence, human suffering, and environmental destruction. What can we, as caring human beings, do to help the wounds of others and reduce their pain? What can we do to heal our personal wounds and diminish our own suffering.

We can give. Everyone has something to give, be it time, money, wisdom, love or a variety of other things. We can accomplish miracles through our giving. Giving ideas, skills, and resources can dramatically improve the world we live in. Whatever our circumstances, we can have a positive influence on others lives.”

This book has already given me some inspiration on giving I wanted to share with you. I hope you will share your giving stories with us so we ca inspire a few others along the way. You may already be giving everyday without even thinking about it as I discovered with in the first few pages.

Day 117: Give 117

One of the many “ahha” moments I have already had from reading this book on “giving” is how I was already giving in my life everyday without “counting” it. The book actually includes a list of all the different ways you can give in your life. Here is The Power of Giving “power give” list.

– Love, Laughter. Knowledge, Leadership, Hope, Life, Time, Money, Skills, Health, Touch, Attention, Advice –

Love. It’s a pretty powerful thing. Some days it’s easy and some days it is so hard. But unconditional love is truly a gift. A GIVE of epic proportions.

I am an adoptive mother and the day my baby son was placed in my arms I realized what true unconditional love was. It made no difference to me if I gave birth to him or not, I loved him with all my heart and soul. Even at the age of 3, when some days he drives me a bit crazy, I would throw myself in front of a moving bus to save his life.

Your love for your child is truly unconditional. If someone had sat me down and told me before I was a parent that I would be up every night for 3 years soothing my son back to sleep, or he would thrown up on me, pee on me, hit, bite, and pull my hair, make me worry until I am blue and stretch my patience so far I could scream. If I had known that everything I did effected my child every day, that every decision I make for him will change and mould who he is – if I knew all that would I still have done it?

You bet and I hope to do it again knowing what I know now.

So every day I GIVE to the core of what I believe GIVING is. Unconditional without any expectation of a return. That is what I do for my son every day. Feed him, hug him, cuddle him, teach him, laugh with him, dress him, play with him, work for him, get up during the night for him, sing to him, and love him… I could go on with this list for pages. Everything thing I do in my day is to GIVE him the best possible life I can.

So today’s GIVE is unconditional love. I give it to my son every day, every minute, every second of his life.

Who is the person in your life that you unconditionally love? Who is the person you have received unconditional love from? Send us your story we would love to hear it.

Time Commitment: My son’s entire life

Cost: 0 my greatest joy
