Today is my last day of giving $10 for 10 days. This 10 day giving campaign was in honour of Film Familia that provided 365give with the funds to show you how you can change the world with just $10.00. You can donate directly, you can be part of a larger donation with many contributions that create world change. You can even do it while on vacation as I have for the last 10 days.
Giving has no boundaries of time or borders. You can GIVE every day if you choose. With just a little effort you can find a simple thing in your life to create a ripple effect that will help others. Thank you Film Familia for inspiring me to find ways to GIVE back that anyone can incorporate into their lives. You each gave 365give about $10 each and that is creating a ripple effect that will make that $10 go a lot further than we will ever know.
Day 113: Give 113
Today’s GIVE is being given to the Lookout Emergency Aid Society. This is in honour of my brother in-law that dedicated 25 years of his life to this well known organization which has helped so many homeless people in Vancouver. He recently retired from his job and has had times when he has wondered about his life and accomplishments. He sometimes forgets how he has created such great change the world in his own way by working with Lookout. During his 25 years with Lookout, he had this wonderful ability to understand and connect with the challenges of the people that came through their door. He helped grow the organization from one shelter with 3 beds to 4 shelters and 182 beds. Not only do they provide beds but they have services that range from transitional housing, support services, a “living room drop-in” and most importantly, non-judgmental help. Here is a quote from their site:
“Lookout Emergency Aid Society is a non-profit charitable organization established in 1971. We offer a range of services and housing 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to adult men and women who are destitute and require assistance.
The purpose of Lookout is to provide non-judgmental, non-sectarian services to adults and seniors who cope with a wide variety of challenges including: mental illness, chronic alcoholism, substance abuse, mental/physical handicaps, chronic health problems (including HIV/Aids), legal issues or those simply unable to cope.”
The face of homelessness is not what we all think. There are so many challenges in our world we may not all understand but thank goodness there are people like Larry that understand with compassion and never ending GIVING. Larry, this GIVE is for you and for all the people you have given back to in your life. The world is blessed by having you in it as you touched so many peoples lives in ways you will never even know.
