Before switching to sustainable fashion, I wasn't aware of the problematic behavior of fast fashion. Fast fashion brands produce an alarming number of clothes at a quick pace. Their clothes are trendy. And cheap. That's why consumers are encouraged to buy more and often. But HOW CAN BRANDS MAKE SO MANY NEW CLOTHES IN LESS THAN A WEEK AND WHY ARE THEY SO CHEAP? WHO PAY THE PRICE? UNFORTUNATELY, THE WORKERS AND OUR PLANET. Exploitation of workers is happening in many parts of the world. The rights to safe working environment as well as the fact that workers are being verbally and physically abused are being ignored. Because profit that's why. Imagine how many fast fashion brands are there. In a year, they produce billions of garments. An alarming portion of that billions ends up in landfills or gets burned. Polyester fabrics even take up to 200 years to decompose.
If we continue to produce and dump and burn more and more clothes every second without acting or at least addressing our clothing waste problem, the earth is going to take its toll on us. It's going to fucking will.
So thrift. Swap. Donate. Resell. Do not throw clothes away. Look for alternative and sustainable brands. Celebrate the workers who make them. Help the earth in its healing in any way that you can.
